Charlie Chaplin

Charlie Chaplin: Photo by W. Eugene Smith, 1952
On the set of Limelight, Charlie Chaplin re-created the turn-of-the-century London music halls where he had learned his craft as a mime and a comic actor even before the dawn of the silent film industry. In this intimate portrait, photographer W. Eugene Smith saw the great actor and director, in his sixth decade, returning to the clowning of his youth. Crazy, scary talent? Yep, he's still got it.

Charlie Chaplin: Fotografie realizata de W. Eugene Smith, 1952
In ecranizarea filmului "Limelight", Charlie Chaplin a recreat atmosfera din London music hall, acea atmosfera care a transformat cursul secolului, acolo unde a invatat mestesugul mimului si a actorului de comedie inca inainte de zorii industriei filmului mut. In aceasta portretizare fotograful W. Eugene Smith a vazut marele actor si regizor, in al saselea deceniu de viata, care se reintoarce la clovnariile tineretii. Nebun, infricosator talent? Da, inca se pricepe.
